  Notes	Percival?s parents rented a property and shop in Medlow Street, Gulgong, trading as ?Smythe & Son Tailors?. The Smythe brothers with the exception of Percival?s brothers Herbert and Victor were tailors, as was their father Francis. They were also musicians and they provided musical accompaniment to the movies shown at the Gulgong Opera House. The Gulgong Opera House has been used for operatic performances on occasions, but for the period during the 1914 to 1920?s it was not used as an opera house. It was used as a cinema in which silent movies were shown and during the interval the audience was entertained by musicians and singers. There was also a rival open air cinema in which the Brass Band played accompaniment so there was a big demand for musicians in Gulgong. Also from Percival?s Army records it shows that he was a projectionist while he was in the UK during the last of WW1. Perhaps he learned how to run a movie projector while he was in Gulgong. Sarah reputedly sang with them under the stage name of 'Cissy Taverney'. [2]
