- The Skingleys were very wealthy and built an empire based in and around Coggeshall and Wakes Colne. Their estate was at Wakes Hall, built in the 10th century. It was knocked down by another Henry Skingsley in 1838 and re-built as it is today. There are many references to this family and in Coggeshall church there are a number of plaques and two family vaults. There were 4 stained glass windows of the Skingleys, but destroyed in WW2.
