Torpedoed and sunk by U-124 (Schulz), in the Atlantic about 360 miles W by S of Rockall, in position 57.25N 25.00W while on a voyage from Avonmouth to Victoria, Cameroons via the USA, in ballast, part of convoy OB 229 comprising 35 ships. The Master, Capt Henry Carlton Bower, 62 crew and 2 gunners were lost. The sole survivor, chief cook James Thompson Harvey, was rescued by RCN destroyer Saguenay and landed at Greenock 23.10.40.
