- Lou worked as a cook in both private/domestic and business settings. After she left Dornoch she worked for a short time in London for people connected with those who had stayed with her mother during the game-shooting season in Scotland. One of these positions was in the household of Lady Violet Bonham Carter.
In 1958, during her time as cook with Prince of Wales Orthopaedic Hospital, Rhydlafar, Cardiff, she was part of the team that won first prize in the Hospitals Cooking Competition at the Hotel and Catering Exibition at Olympia in London. In later life she worked as a cook with organizations such as British Steel and Marks & Spencer.
